Bag (Crypto Slang)

A bag is the amount of a particular cryptocurrency someone holds, often implying a sizable position or one they are stuck holding.

In crypto slang, a bag is a holding of a specific coin or token. Someone might say they “have a bag of ETH” to mean they own some ETH, or a “big bag” to mean a large position relative to their portfolio. The term is neutral in some contexts, but it often carries a negative tone when referring to assets that have fallen sharply in value and are hard to sell without taking a loss.

The term matters because it shows up often in trading discussions, social media, and market commentary. A “bagholder” is someone left holding a token after excitement fades or prices drop, sometimes because they bought near a peak. For example, if a trader buys a small-cap token at $1 and it falls to $0.10, they may be described as holding a heavy bag. Like “position” in traditional investing, “bag” refers to ownership, but with more informal and emotional baggage.
